Esteban Lorenzano - Pulsar: Use It. Break It. Improve It - 28 October 2026

Pulsar is an experimental IDE for Pharo, built with Spec. It aims to give programmers more leverage in their everyday work through faster navigation, richer feedback, deeper inspection, persistent lines of investigation, and a more fluid relationship with the running image. It is not simply a new browser, but an attempt to rethink the IDE as a coherent workbench for understanding, modifying, and evolving software.

Esteban Lorenzano studied Computer Sciences at Universidad de Buenos Aires, and worked since 1994 in several object-oriented and low-level technologies, in different software companies, serving in various positions from programmer to senior architect. In 2007 he co-founded Smallworks to offer Pharo-based agile development projects. Since 2012 he dedicated full time to developing the Pharo code and community. He works with the INRIA-EVREF team in Lille, France, as core developer for Pharo, being responsible with the coordination of new releases and the implementation and maintenance of several Pharo libraries.

Vector Graphics in Cuis Smalltalk - Wednesday 31st March

The next meeting of the UK Smalltalk User Group will be on Wednesday, March 31st.   In this meeting, Juan Vuletich will present a Vector Graphic implementation in Cuis Smalltalk. Graphics for interactive software have traditionally been constrained for performance reasons. The consequence is that most software has serious trouble adapting to higher resolution screens, requires platform specific widget kits, provides limited functionality, and has sub optimal visual quality. But improvements in computing power over the last couple of decades enable a brighter future: Cuis Smalltalk provides a VectorGraphics based implementation of the Morphic UI framework that addresses all these issues. Just-in-time coding session - Monday May 2nd

With another long weekend upon us, why not meet up for an impromptu coding session on Monday May 2nd. We will meet at the Barbican Centre , which offers free wifi and ample seating space with tables and power sockets (sort of ideal for a coding session!). As Monday is a holiday, the Barbican Centre opens at noon. Let's aim at meeting up from 1pm onwards for some coding and coffee. If you have any questions, get in touch with Yann Monclair .
